Persoonia acerosa (Needle Geebung)

We got the chance to survey the local occurrence of Needle Geebung (Persoonia acerosa) at a Priority Management Site this week!

East Coast Ecology conducted a targeted survey for the Vulnerable shrub in the Blue Mountains. The Needle Geebung is a small shrub that is recognisable by its bright green foliage and pine-like leaves. Like many Geebungs, it occurs in dry sclerophyll forest, scrubby low-woodland and heath on low fertility soils.

Unfortunately, 13 species of Geebung (Persoonia) are listed as threatened under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 (NSW) because of several factors including habitat loss through clearing for urban and small-rural-lot development and widespread infection by Phytophthora cinnamomi. Although most threatened species of Geebung are data deficient, there are conservation strategies in place to hopefully secure the species in the long term.
