Targeted Microbat Survey

Our Principal Ecologist, Dr Jack Tatler, was out on the boat this week surveying microbats under a bridge in Sydney.

Cave-roosting microbats will use artificial caves; including culverts, bridges and buildings that offer equivalent microclimates to their natural cave habitats. In urban areas, some species of microbat are heavily reliant on these man-made habitats, due in large part to a steady decline of natural caves suitable for these species.

Our client engaged East Coast Ecology to identify any presence of microbats and their habitats, before they commence routine maintenance on the bridge.

Here is a photo of Jack using an ultrasonic detector and endoscope.
